GRIFFINS TURN BACK LADY CHARGERS

Hillburn, N.Y. (4/5/16)  The Dominican College women's lacrosse team lost a non-conference game to the visiting Griffins of Chestnut Hill College, 13-8, this afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action played at the Torne Valley Sports Complex.

CHC scored the first two goals of the game, but junior Amber June (Stony Point, N.Y.) got the Lady Chargers on the board with an unassisted goal with 23:23 remaining in the first stanza.  The Griffins used a 5-0 run to increase their lead to 7-1, but back-to-back scores from Sinead Brosnan (Florida, N.Y.), from Shayne Gallagher (Blauvelt, N.Y.), and June cut the deficit to 7-3 with 6:45 to go before the break.  Two more Griffin goals made the score 9-3 at the intermission.

Chestnut Hill opened the second half with three unanswered goal, but Haliann Fitzgerald (Walden, N.Y.) broke the run with a free position goal with 16:42 to go.  After a Griffin goal, Dominican scored four times in a row for the final 13-8 score.  Gallagher began the run with an unassisted goal, followed by one off the stick of FitzgeraldGallagher netted her second game goal with 4:35 to play and junior Katie Dascher (Valley Stream, N.Y.) ended the scoring with a goal off the pass from Fitzgerald with 11 ticks left.

Fitzgerald, Gallagher and June all had two goals in the loss, with Fitzgerald and Gallagher both added an assist.

Lady Charger goalie Brittany Kiernan* (Clarkstown, N.Y.) made 18 saves.

With the loss, DC falls to 0-9 overall and 0-3 in conference play.
