DRIVAS AND FOX HEADLINE ALL-CACC WOMEN'S LACROSSE TEAM

Orangeburg, N.Y. (4/24/17)  Dominican College women's lacrosse coach Jim Drivas and freshman Jenna Fox have been named the BSN Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Coach of the Year and the Rookie of the Year as was announced today by Commissioner Dan Mara.  Seniors Haliann Fitzgerald and Shayne Gallagher also earned All-CACC accolades.

Voting for the major awards and all-conference honors was conducted by the league's 10 head coaches in the sport.

Drivas was named the BSN Sports Coach of the Year, as he guided Dominican to an impressive 8-5 overall record and an 8-1 mark in league play. The turnaround came a year after Dominican had missed the CACC playoffs.

Fox, a freshman midfielder from Stony Point, N.Y., was deemed the league's top rookie after helping lead the Chargers to an 8-1 record in the CACC, which was good for second place in the standings and a first-round bye in this week's conference tournament. The freshman midfielder threw in 34 goals and assisted on 22 others for 56 points, as her helpers and points were both the sixth highest totals in the conference. Fox also had a steady hand in the defensive aspect of the game, as she ranked fourth in the CACC in both draw controls (66) and caused turnovers (27).  In addition to being named the Rookie of the Year, Fox was named to the All-CACC First Team.

Fitzgerald, a senior attacker from Walden, N.Y., makes her first appearance on the All-CACC First team after being named to the Second Team in 2016.  She recently recorded her 100th career goal on April 18th against Nyack College.  She is currently second on the team in goals, assists and points.  Fitzgerald also currently sits eighth in the CACC in goals scored and seventh in points.  She currently sits sixth all-time in Lady Charger history in goals, fifth in points, tied for third in assists, eighth in ground balls, tied for eighth in draw controls and is seventh in caused turnovers.  She has earned one CACC Player of the Week honors this season.

Gallagher, a senior attacker from Baluvet, N.Y., is currently fourth in the CACC and leads the Lady Chargers in goals scored this season.  Gallagher has also earned one CACC Player of the Week honors this season.  In her career she has recorded 97 goals, 16 assists, 113 points, 43 ground balls, 57 draw controls and 13 caused turnovers.  She currently sits 10th all-time in Lady Charger history in assists and tenth in draw controls.
