Orangeburg, N.Y. (9/28/24) The Dominican University New York women's soccer team suffered a conference loss to the Lions of Georgian Court University this afternoon on O'Brien Field.
The Lady Chargers fall to 3-4 overall and 1-2 in conference play while the Lions improve to 6-2 overall and 3-1 in the CACC.
Brielle Bell started in goal for DU and made nine saves but suffered the loss. Emma Bennett recorded nine saves and earned the win.
The Lions opened the scoring in the first half after Chelsea Lavezzo put GCU up 1-0. The Lions added to their lead in the second half after Sophia Ridolfo gave GCU a 2-0 advantage.
In the 62nd minute, Isabella Wysocki scored her fourth goal of the season on a penalty kick to cut the deficit in half.
Goals by Chiamaka Wokocha and Seanna Boan late in the second half extended the GCU lead to 4-1 on their way to the victory.
Ridolfo also picked up an assist on the first goal while Juliana Rettino and Ashley Merizalde each recorded assists.
Both teams each took 25 shots and DU outshot the Lions 19-12 in the second half. Kaitlyn Zeeb, Jessie Maraia, and Wysocki combined for 19 shots. Sabine Sorensen finished with three shots while Alissa Madura took two shots and Katelyn Tierney took one shot.
Dominican will return to action next Saturday when they visit Lincoln University for a conference contest.
