
MARAIA SCORES A HAT TRICK, MADURA SCORES TWICE AS LADY CHARGERS DEFEAT GRIFFINS
Lafayette Hill, Pa. (10/12/24) The Dominican University New York women's soccer team defeated the Griffins of Chestnut Hill College in conference action this afternoon by a score of 5-3.
The Lady Chargers improve to 5-5 overall and 3-3 in the CACC while CHC falls to 2-6-1 overall and 2-4 in conference play.
Jessie Maraia scored a hat trick, all in the first half, and picked up an assist to lead the Lady Chargers to victory. Alissa Madura also had a big game scoring two goals and picked up one assist.
Goalkeeper Nelly Arvidsson made five saves and recorded her fourth win of the season. CHC keeper Haley Esposito made four saves but suffered the loss and Ellie Stratz entered in relief in the second half and made two saves.
The Lady Chargers scored four goals on eight shots in the first half. Maraia earned her hat trick as she scored the first two goals of the game and then completed the hat trick at the end of the first half to put DU up 4-0.
Madura scored the third DU goal and assisted on Maraia's third goal as the Lady Chargers took a 4-0 lead into halftime.
CHC started their comeback effort in the 60th minute when Rebecca Dalton put the Griffins on the board. Less than one minute later, Elizabeth Deal cut the deficit to two goals at the 60:09 mark.
Later in the second half, Peyton Lennon cut the DU lead to one goal at the 73:42 mark.
In the 83rd minute, Madura scored her second goal of the game to extend the lead to 5-3 and the Lady Chargers would hold on for the victory.
Isabella Wysocki, Sabine Sorensen, and Kaitlyn Zeeb all picked up an assist in the win.
The Griffins outshot the Lady Chargers 21-14 and 15-6 in the second half. Maraia and Madura each took a team-high six shots. Wysocki finished with two shots. Dominican held the edge in corner kicks 6-5.
The Lady Chargers return to action for a non-conference match up with Mercy University on Wednesday afternoon on O'Brien Field.
