WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL TOPS ASSUMPTION COLLEGE
Worcester, Mass. (9/9/14) The Dominican College women's volleyball team opened the 2014 season with a 3-1 victory over non-conference opponent, Assumption College, this evening in a match played at Laska Gymnasium.
Worcester, Mass. (9/9/14) The Dominican College women's volleyball team opened the 2014 season with a 3-1 victory over non-conference opponent, Assumption College, this evening in a match played at Laska Gymnasium.
Dominican won the first two sets by scores of 25-17 and 25-14, while Assumption took set three, 25-21. The Lady Chargers won the fourth set, 25-16 for the 3-1 match victory.
With the win, DC improves to 1-0 on the season.
Set one was tied at 4-4 when the Lady Chargers went on a 7-0 tear to pull ahead 11-4 and would never trail as they went on to the 25-17 win.
The second set saw the scored tied at 8-all when DC charged ahead to close out the set, outscoring their opponents, 17-6, for the 25-14 win and 2-0 match lead.
The Lady Chargers opened the third set with a 3-1 advantage, but were unable to hold on and the Greyhounds came away with the 25-21 win.
DC jumped out to a 10-1 lead in the fourth set and closed out the match with a kill from Kera Dexter (Selah, Wash.) for the 25-16 win and 3-1 match victory.
Sophomore outside hitter McKenzie John (Lafayette, La.) had a career high 27 kills and sported a .317 attack percentage in the victory.
Amanda Hallstein* (Holtsville, N.Y.) recorded 28 assists, while Dexter finished with 20 assists.
Angela Kim (Marlton, N.J.) had a team leading 17 defensive digs.
Dominican returns to action on Thursday evening as they travel to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division opponent, Concordia College.
