LADY CHARGERS WIN THIRLLER OVER STONEHILL COLLEGE
Orangeburg, N.Y. (9/19/14) The Dominican College women's volleyball team won a thrilling 28-26 set four to secure a 3-1 match victory over the visiting Skyhawks of Stonehill College this evening in non-conference action from Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.
Orangeburg, N.Y. (9/19/14) The Dominican College women's volleyball team won a thrilling 28-26 set four to secure a 3-1 match victory over the visiting Skyhawks of Stonehill College this evening in non-conference action from Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.
With the victory, Dominican improves to 4-0 overall and stand at 2-0 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play, while Stonehill falls to 7-2 overall and 1-0 in Northeast-10 action.
DC was the first CACC team to defeat the Skyhawks this season as Stonehill owned wins over CACC members Chestnut Hill College, Holy Family University, Goldey-Beacom College and Wilmington University.
Dominican never trailed in the first set as they quickly built up a 20-10 lead and used a kill from sophomore outside hitter McKenzie John (Lafayette, La.) to secure a 25-16 win.
The Lady Chargers led 23-17 in set two, but a 6-0 Skyhawk rally tied the set. Dominican put together consecutive kills from Kera Dexter (Selah, Washington) and junior Keely Fink (Lagrangeville, N.Y.) to pull away with the 25-23 win and take a 2-0 match lead.
A 9-3 run in the third frame increased the Stonehill lead from two points (11-9) to eight points (20-12) as they went on to the 25-18 win.
Dominican countered an early 7-6 set four deficit with six consecutive points to go up 12-7, but SC answered with an 8-2 run to regain a 15-14 advantage. Six unanswered Lady Charger points, with two of those coming off of kills from John gave DC a 20-15 lead.
A kill from John put the team at match point (24-18), but six Stonehill points tied the set at 24-all. Later tied at 26-26, DC put the match away with kills from senior Kayla Dexter* (Selah, Wash.) and Ashley Joyner (Edgewood, Md.) for the 28-26 win and 3-1 match victory.
John led the Dominican offense with a double-double of 16 kills and 10 digs.
Setter Amanda Hallstein* (Holtsville, N.Y.) also recorded a double-double with a night best 20 assists and 21 digs.
Libero Angela Kim (Marlton, N.J.) added 16 digs, while Kera Dexter finished with 12 assists and eight kills (.318 attack percentage).
Cortney Yeoman (Glen Dale, Md.) had six kills and posted a .333 attack percentage.
