
BASEBALL SWEEPS CALDWELL COLLEGE
Orangeburg, NY (4/25/11) The Dominican College baseball team improved to 22-14 overall and 14-4 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play after sweeping a conference double-header from the visiting Cougars of Caldwell College today in games played at Veteran's Park. DC took game one, 2-0, and won the nightcap, 3-2, in ten innings.

DC took game one, 2-0, and won the nightcap, 3-2, in ten innings.
Game One: Dominican took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first as Michael Levy, Jr (Salisburg Mill, NY) led off the inning with a single up-the-middle, moved to second on a ground out, advanced to third on the single to left field by Mario Lopez (Anthony, NM) and scored on the fielder's choice hit by senior Dan Robinson (Massapequa, NY).
The Chargers added an insurance run in the fourth as Andrew Camardella (Pelham, NY) drew a two out walk and came around to score on the RBI double to right field off the bat of designated hitter Tony Blake (Windsor, CT) for the 2-0 lead and eventual victory.
Starter Dave Bartuska (Duryea, PA) improved to 6-2 on the season, scattering just six hits and collecting 13 strikeouts in eight innings of work. Justin Moore (Wantagh, NY) picked up his second save of the season with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.
Game Two: The Chargers started the scoring in the second game with a run in the bottom of the second inning as Blake led off the inning with a single to right center field, went to second on the single to center off the bat of Camardella and both runners advanced on a passed ball. Freshman Christopher Gonzalez (Bronx, NY) singled through the left side to plate Blake and put DC ahead 1-0.
Caldwell tied the game with a run in the fourth inning, but Dominican went ahead with a run in the fifth as Robinson got a two out single up-the-middle and moved to second on a balk. Blake hit a single through the left side to allow Robinson to score and put the Chargers ahead 2-1.
The Cougars put a run on the board in the eighth to tie the contest at 2-2 to force extra innings. In the tenth, Lopez led off the inning with a single and advanced to second on the sacrifice bunt off the bat of Robinson. Blake drew a walk to put two runners on base and both advanced on a passed ball. A sacrifice fly ball to center field hit by Camardella brought home Lopez and gave DC the 3-2 victory.
Reliever Justin Moore (Wantagh, NY) picked up the win (6-1) in two innings of work and allowing two hits. Starter Dustin Javins (Fort Lauderdale, FL) went eight innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits and four strikeouts.
