
CHARGERS BASEBALL SWEEPS # 1 WILMINGTON UNIVERSITY
Orangeburg, NY (4/30/11) The Dominican College baseball team swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header from Wilmington University, the current top team in the latest NCAA East Region poll, in games played this evening at Veteran's Park. DC shut out the Wildcats, 10-0 in game one and took the night cap, 7-1 to improve to 24-15 overall and 16-4 in conference play.

Orangeburg, NY (4/30/11) The Dominican College baseball team swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header from Wilmington University, the current top team in the latest NCAA East Region poll, in games played this evening at Veteran's Park. DC shut out the Wildcats, 10-0 in game one and took the night cap, 7-1 to improve to 24-15 overall and 16-4 in conference play.
Game One: The Chargers offense exploded for 10 runs on 16 hits in the 10-0 game one victory. Mario Lopez (Anthony, MX), Tony Blake (Windsor, CT) and Robert Iglesias (Mays Landing, NJ) each had three hits a-piece to lead the Chargers.
Dominican put two runs on the board in the second inning as Michael Levy, Jr (Salisbury Mill, NY) and Lopez each had RBI singles to give the team a 2-0 lead. An RBI single in the third off the bat of Christopher Brown (Tenafly, NJ) increased the lead to 3-0.
DC exploded for seven runs in the bottom half of the seventh inning to go ahead 10-0. Shortstop Marco Moreno (Miami, FL) had a two run single down the right field line and Iglesias had an RBI infield hit. Brown would come home on a wild pitch and Lopez later delivered a one out RBI single to left field and Robinson hit a fielder's choice which plated a run and a WU error allowed the seventh DC run of the inning to score.
Junior right-handed pitcher Dustin Javins (Fort Lauderdale, FL) picked up the complete game shut out victory to improve to 4-3 on the season, scattering four hits and recording 10 strikeouts.
Game Two: The 'Cats took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning of the second game, but DC tied the score, 1-1 in the bottom of the second inning as Moreno hit a one out double to center field and Iglesias later followed with a two out RBI single through the left side.
Like the first game, the Chargers had a big seventh inning with six runs on four hits to jump ahead, 7-1. Levy hit a one out bases loaded double down the left field line to plate two runs and Lopez followed with a two run double to center field. Lopez later scored on a WU error and Blake doubled to right center field to score the sixth DC run of the inning.
Junior Dave Bartuska (Duryea, PA) picked up the complete game victory (7-2), allowing just one run on four hits and tallying 11 strikeouts.
