Cary, N.C. (2/26/23) The Dominican University New York baseball team fell to Frostburg State University, 2-1 and 9-3, this afternoon in a non-conference double-header played at the USA Baseball Complex.
Following the sweep Dominican now stands at 1-3 on the season.
Game One: The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fifth inning when the Bobcats struck for a run. The Chargers tied the score in the top of the sixth as right fielder Phil Whitney (Newark, N.J.) hit a double to center field which allowed Benjamin Avila (Walden, N.Y.) to score.
A Frostburg home run in bottom of the sixth inning lifted them to the 2-1 victory.
Five different Chargers had a hit in the game.
Brendan Turton (Westbury, N.Y.) picked up four strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings of work.
Game Two: The Bobcats led 4-0 after two innings of play, but Dominican got on the scoreboard with a three-run third stanza.
Tyler Richman (Sunrise, Fla.) led off the inning with a double and scored a batter later on a FSU fielding error. Alexander Reyes (Bronx, N.Y.) later scored on Ty Gilligan's (Ringwood, N.J.) RBI groundout and the final run of the inning would come home to score on Stefano Libio's (Tamarac, Fla.) RBI groundout to make the score 4-3.
The Bobcats would score in their final four at-bats for the 9-3 win.
Dominican returns to action on Tuesday afternoon when they take on the University of Mount Olive. First pitch is slated for 4pm.
