The Chargers fell in game one 14-11 and then 6-2 in game two. The Chargers fall to 1-7 overall on the season.
Game One: D'Youville opened the doubleheader with a 14-11 win over Dominican. The Chargers last inning comeback fell short after a four-run rally.
Both teams finished with 12 hits each. Multiple Chargers finished with a multi-hit game.
Jason Sosa-Rivas (Yonkers, N.Y.) finished the game 2-3 with three RBIs including a second inning homer to get the scoring started in the game. Peter Kiefer (Waterford, Conn.) extended the Charger lead to 2-0 after an RBI-double and finished the game 2-3.
D'Youville jumped out in front 6-2 after a six-run third inning. Jeremy Glinski, Craig Oliver, and Caden Strobel all added RBIs in the inning.
The Chargers rallied in the bottom of the third to cut the deficit to 6-5 after Ty Gilligan (Ringwood, N.J.), Stefano Libio (Tamarac, Fla.), and Sosa-Rivas each drove in one run.
D'Youville scored eight runs in the top of the fourth inning to extend their lead to 14-5. The Chargers added one run in the fifth inning and sixth inning and trailed 14-7 heading into the seventh inning.
The Chargers rallied for four runs in the seventh inning. Libio got the rally started with an RBI-single and a two-RBI double by Dominic Morabito (Groton, Conn.) cut the deficit to 14-10.
The Chargers added one more run after an RBI-groundout but the Saints were able to complete the victory.
Game Two: The Saints completed the sweep over the Chargers with a 6-2 win in game two.
Billy Morris recorded the win on the mound for D'Youville and recorded four strikeouts over six innings of work. John Stoliker (Guilderland, N.Y.) started on the mound for the Chargers and recorded two strikeouts but suffered the loss.
Maverick Medina (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) entered the game in relief and recorded three strikeouts in 3.1 shutout innings.
Dominican was led by Alexander Reyes (Bronx, N.Y.) who finished 2-3 including a double and scored one run.
The Saints were led by Alec Boucher who finished the game 2-2 and added one RBI and scored one run. Billy Morris also added two hits and drove in one RBI. Craig Oliver, Ethan Hammond, and Blaise Kolbert each added one RBI in the win.
The Chargers got on the board after Jean Nunez (New York, N.Y.) doubled to center field and drove in the first run of the game.
D'Youville scored all six runs in the bottom of the third inning. The Chargers added one run in the seventh inning on a wild pitch but the Saints were able to complete the 6-2 win.
The Chargers return to action tomorrow afternoon at the USA Baseball Training Complex against Saint Anselm College at 12:30 PM.
