Nyack, N.Y. (3/12/23) The Dominican University New York baseball team dropped a non-conference doubleheader to the visiting Dolphins of the College of Staten Island, 5-2 and 6-3, in games played this afternoon.

Nyack, N.Y. (3/12/23) The Dominican University New York baseball team dropped a non-conference doubleheader to the visiting Dolphins of the College of Staten Island, 5-2 and 6-3, in games played this afternoon.
Following the doubleheader the Chargers now stand at 1-13 overall.
Game One: An RBI double in the bottom of the first inning off the bat of catcher Ty Gilligan (Ringwood, N.J.) gave Dominican the early 1-0 advantage.
The Chargers added to the lead in the second on the sacrifice fly ball to centerfield by Davin Keddell-Tuckey (Troy, N.Y.) for the 2-0 edge.
CSI rallied for three runs in the third, added a run in the fourth and scored again in the seventh for the 5-2 win.
Gilligan went 3-4 in the game.
Pitcher Anthony Leak (Pelham, N.Y.) suffered the complete game loss.
Game Two: First basemen Jason Sosa-Rivas (Yonkers, N.Y.) gave the Chargers a 1-0 lead in the first on the run-scoring single down the right field line.
The Dolphins tied the game in the top of the second, but Dominican re-took the lead in the third as catcher Benjamin Avila (Walden, N.Y.) singled through the left side which brought home a run for the 2-1 edge.
CSI countered with a two-run fifth inning and added three runs in the top of the seventh for the 6-2 lead. The Chargers added a run in the bottom of the seventh on the RBI ground out by Jean Nunez (New York, N.Y.) for the final 6-3 score.
Bryant Bassett (Bronx, N.Y.) had two stolen bases.
Starter Robert Liriano (Haverstraw, N.Y.) took the loss.
Dominican is scheduled to return to action on Wednesday when they face St. Thomas Aquinas College.
