Uniondale, N.Y. (3/18/23) The Dominican University New York baseball team fell in a non-conference doubleheader to host Molloy College, 12-4 and 8-3 in games played today at Mitchel Field.
Following the sweep, Dominican now stands at 1-15 overall.
Game One: The Chargers trailed 3-0 after two innings of play, but got a run in the top of the third on the RBI single up-the-middle off the bat of Peter Kiefer (Waterford, Conn.).
Molloy countered with runs in the bottom of the third, fifth and seventh innings to build a 12-1 lead. Dominican scored three runs on two hits in their final at-bat for the final 12-4 score. Davin Keddell-Tuckey (Troy, N.Y.) hit a run-scoring single down the left field line, while Stefano Libio (Tamarac, Fla.) later followed with an RBI single to centerfield. Christian Fils-Aime (North Babylon, N.Y.) later reached on a fielder's choice which allowed a run to come home.
Kiefer and Tyler Richman (Sunrise, Fla.) each had two hits in the loss.
Starter Brendan Turton (Westbury, N.Y.) suffered the loss in five innings of work, collecting six strikeouts.
Game Two: Molloy led 3-0 through four innings of play when Dominican scored a run in the top of the fifth on a sacrifice fly ball hit by Ty Gilligan (Ringwood, N.J.).
Following five runs by the Lions in the fifth to extend their lead to 8-1, the Chargers added two runs in the seventh for the final 8-3 score. Gilligan delivered a run-scoring double down the left field line and Benjamin Avila (Walden, N.Y.) followed with a sacrfice fly ball to left field to bring home Joseph Coppola (Cornwall, N.Y.).
Richman and Gilligan both had two hits.
Sophomore Anthony Leak (Pelham, N.Y.) took the loss in five innings of work, striking out five batters.
Dominican returns to Molloy to complete the non-conference series tomorrow afternoon.
