Waterbury, Conn. (3/24/23) The Dominican University New York baseball team dropped both games of their CACC doubleheader to Post University earlier today.
The Chargers fall to 2-20 overall and 0-3 in conference play. The Eagles complete the season series sweep of the Chargers and improve to 13-11 overall and 3-0 in the CACC.
Game One: The Chargers opened the conference doubleheader with an 11-2 loss to the Eagles. Brendan Turton (Westbury, N.Y.) started on the mound in game one for the Chargers and recorded four strikeouts over 4.2 innings of work but suffered the loss.
Justin Portes earned the win on the mound for the Eagles and recorded five strikeouts over seven innings pitched.
Jimmy Brennan led the Eagles with three hits and five RBIs. DJ Caron also added three hits and one RBI while Danny Gill and Matt Goehrig each drove in two runs.
The game was scoreless through the first three and a half innings before the Eagles jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning and then added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
The Chargers got on the board after Ty Gilligan (Ringwood, N.J) doubled and drove in Tyler Richman (Sunrise, Fla.) for their first run. Phil Whitney (Newark, N.J.) followed with an RBI-single which drove in Gilligan to cut the Post lead to 5-2.
Jimmy Brennan's three-RBI double broke the game open and extended the lead to 8-2. Post added three more runs on their way to the 11-2 game one victory.
Game Two: The Eagles completed the sweep of the doubleheader with a 13-3 victory in game two. Joe Christiana earned the win on the mound for Post and recorded four strikeouts in 5.2 innings of work.
Matt Goerhig who went 3-3 with a homer, a triple, and six RBIs. Michael Pavelchak and Danny Gill each added two hits and two RBIs. DJ Caron and Shane Lindemuth each drove in one RBI.
Post got on the board in the third inning with three runs and added two runs in the fourth inning and three more runs in the fifth inning.
Phil Whitney put the Chargers on the board in the top of the sixth inning with a three-run homer.
Post extended the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning on their way to the game two victory.
The Chargers return home on Tuesday when they host Bloomfield College for a north division doubleheader beginning at 3:30 PM at Clover Stadium.
