
CHARGERS UPEND GOLDEN FALCONS

(4/14/23) The Dominican University New York baseball team upended the visiting Golden Falcons of Felician University, 16-15, this afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) played at Clover Stadium. The second game of the scheduled doubleheader had to be postponed and will be made up at a later date.

With the win the Chargers improve to 6-27 overall and 3-9 in conference play.
Dominican trailed 1-0 after one inning of play but exploded for nine runs on six hits. Centerfielder Christian Fils-Aime (North Babylon, N.Y.) got the scoring going with the RBI single to left field. Shortstop David Knepper (Miami, Fla.) followed with a run-scoring single through the right side and designated hitter Tyler Gilligan (Ringwood, N.J.) cleared the bases with a three-run double to right center field. Gilligan came home as Tyler Richman (Sunrise, Fla.) hit a double to left field. Catcher Benjamin Avila (Walden, N.Y.) followed with his own RBI double to right center field and first basemen Jason Sosa-Rivas (Yonkers, N.Y.) blasted a two-run homer to left centerfield for the 9-1 advantage.
Felician scored two runs in the third inning and three in the fourth to cut the lead to 9-6, but Dominican tacked on three more runs in their half of the fourth inning as Jean Nunez (New York, N.Y.) delivered an RBI double and Fils-Aime followed with a run-scoring single to right center. Knepper later singled through the right side which allowed Fils-Aime to score and increase the lead to 12-6.
Two run-scoring singles off the bats of Sosa-Rivas and Phil Whitney (Newark, N.J.) extended the advantage to 14-6, but the Golden Falcons scored eight runs in the top of the sixth frame to tie the game at 14-14.
The Chargers regained the lead in the bottom of the seventh as Fils-Aime picked up his third hit of the contest with the two-run single to left field for the 16-14 edge.
The Golden Falcons added a run in the eighth on a solo home run.
Fils-Aime went 3-4 with four RBI in the game, while Sosa-Rivas went 3-5 with three RBI. Whitney scored three runs and Gilligan had three RBI.
Reliever Davin Keddel-Tuckey (Troy, N.Y.) picked up his first collegiate win in 2 1/3 innings of relief. Anthony Leak (Pelham. N.Y.) earned his first save of the season, pitching the final 1 2/3 innings.
Dominican returns to action on Monday when they travel to Alliance University.
