Staten Island, N.Y. (4/17/23) The Dominican University New York baseball team swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header from host Alliance University in games played today at Staten Island University Hospital Community Park.

Staten Island, N.Y. (4/17/23) The Dominican University New York baseball team swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header from host Alliance University in games played today at Staten Island University Hospital Community Park.
Game One: The Charger offense got things going early with a two-run top of the first inning. First basemen Jason Sosa-Rivas (Yonkers, N.Y.) had an RBI single to left field and later Phil Whitney (Newark, N.J.) reached on a fielder's choice which allowed the second run to score.
Dominican tacked on four more runs in the second on a steal, triple to right field off the bat of Tyler Gilligan (Ringwood, N.J.), sacrifice fly to center and a run-scoring double by Sosa-Rivas for the 6-0 lead and eventual win.
Sosa-Rivas went 3-4 with two RBIs in the contest, while Gilligan went 3-4 with two runs scored.
Starter Anthony Leak (Pelham, N.Y.) picked up the complete game victory, collecting seven strikeouts and scattering two hits.
Game Two: Freshman Jean Nunez (New York, N.Y.) gave Dominican a 1-0 lead in their half of the second on the run-scoring single to right field.
The Chargers added to the lead in the third as Dominic Morabito (Groton, Conn.) delivered a two-run double to centerfield and Joseph Coppola (Cornwall, N.Y.) had an RBI infield single to increase the lead to 4-0.
In the top of the seventh, catcher Benjamin Avila (Walden, N.Y.) produced an RBI double to right center field and Sosa-Rivas hit a run-scoring double to center to make the score 6-0. An RBI ground out and an infield single by Christian Fils-Aime (North Babylon, N.Y.) extended the lead to 8-0. David Knepper (Miami, Fla.) reached on a fielder's choice which allowed a one to come home and Gilligan followed with an RBI double to left to make the score 11-0.
Davin Keddell -Tuckey (Troy, N.Y.) went 3-5 in the game, while Gilligan, Morabito and Nunez all had two RBIs in the win.
Starter Williams Tavarez (Brooklyn, N.Y.) went five innings in the win, picking up six strikeouts.
Dominican returns to action on Wednesday afternoon when they host Caldwell University.
