
SETTERS UPEND CHARGERS BASEBALL
Cary, N.C. (3/2/24) The Dominican University New York baseball team lost a non-conference game to the Setters of Pace University, 6-3, this afternoon in a game played today at the USA Baseball Training Complex.
Pace improves to 1-3 overall, while the Chargers drop to 0-4 on the season.
The game was scoreless through three innings of play when Pace scored a run in their half of the fourth. The team added two runs in the fifth, one in the sixth and one in the eighth to claim a 5-0 advantage, before the Chargers put two runs on the board in their half of the eighth frame.
Shortstop David Knepper (Miami, Fla.) brought home a run on a single and later Tyler Gilligan (Ringwood, N.J.) plated a second run on a single to cut the lead to 5-2.
The Setters added a run in the top of the ninth to extend the lead to 6-2.
Dominican had the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth with one out when second baseman Ryan Bongiorno (Stanhope, N.J.) delivered a run-scoring single to make the score 6-3. The Setter pitcher was able to get the next batter to ground into a double play to secure the 6-3 win.
Bongiorno went 2-3 in the loss, while starter Isaiah Figueroa (Old Bridge, N.J.) suffered the loss in five and 1/3 innings of work.
Dominican is scheduled to return to action on Tuesday afternoon when they travel to the University of Mount Olive.
