Mount Olive, N.C. (3/5/24) The Dominican University New York baseball team continued their spring trip as they visited Mount Olive University for a doubleheader.
The Chargers fell in game one by a score of 8-1 and then fell in game two 15-5 to fall to 0-6 overall on the season.
Game One: The Chargers took the lead in the third inning after Ty Gilligan (Ringwood, N.J.) drove in his third RBI of the season.
The Trojans rallied in the fifth inning for five runs and added two runs in the sixth and one run in the seventh for an 8-1 lead and would be the final score.
Davin Keddell-Tuckey (Troy, N.Y.) and David Knepper (Miami, Fla.) each went 2-4 in the loss.
Maverick Medina (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) threw 4.2 innings for the Chargers and struck out two hitters but suffered the loss.
Game Two: The Chargers fell behind 2-0 after the first inning of game two but rallied in the second inning to take the lead.
An RBI-single by Jake Chaisongkram (Chula Vista, Calif.) got the Chargers on the board and then an RBI-single by Tyler Richman (Sunrise, Fla.) tied the game up. The Chargers added another run after a Joseph Coppola (Cornwall, N.Y.) fielder's choice gave DU the lead.
After falling behind over the the next two innings, the Chargers fought back to tie the score in the top of the fourth inning. Chaisongkram homered to cut the deficit to one run. Richman later scored the tying run on a wild pitch.
The Trojans rallied for six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and added two runs each over the next two innings on their way to a 15-5 win in game two.
The Chargers return to action on Thursday for a doubleheader with Adelphi University from Cary, N.C.
