Cary, N.C. (3/7/24) The Dominican University New York baseball team swept the Panthers of Adelphi University in non-conference action this afternoon from Cary, N.C.
The Chargers continue their spring trip with their first two wins of the 2024 campaign. Dominican improves to 2-6 overall after the 6-1 and 11-2 victories.
Game One: The Chargers opened the doubleheader with a 6-1 victory in game one to earn their first win of the 2024 season.
Freshman Pitcher Jedadiah Trudeau (Cohoes, N.Y.) tossed a complete game for his first victory of his collegiate career. Trudeau surrendered six hits but only allowed one run and recorded three strikeouts.
The Chargers pounded 10 total hits and Davin Keddell-Tuckey (Troy, N.Y.) led the way going 3-4 including a double and a triple while driving in one run and scored two runs.
Joseph Torres (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) dove in a team-high two RBIs while Tyler Richman (Sunrise, Fla.) and Ty Gilligan (Ringwood, N.J.) each added two hits.
Dominican opened the scoring when Keddell-Tuckey tripled in the first run and later scored the first Torres RBI. Dominican rallied in the fourth inning for four runs including Torres' second RBI of the game.
Trudeau tossed a 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the seventh which secured the win.
Game Two: The Chargers completed the sweep with an 11-2 victory in game two. Dominican used a seven run rally in the third inning to blow the game open.
Jeuriz Polanco (Clifton, N.J.) started on the hill and pitched five shutout innings and recorded eight strikeouts for his first collegiate victory.
Robert Liriano (Haverstraw, N.Y.) entered the game in relief and surrendered two runs but struck out three batters in two innings of work.
The Chargers continued their hot offense in game two by recording 11 total hits. Joseph Torres went 3-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Gilligan and Richman each went 2-4 with one RBI with Gilligan adding a triple. Andrew Smith (Hampton Bays, N.Y.) added a double and an RBI.
The Chargers return to action tomorrow from Cary, N.C. when they play a twinbill with D'Youville University.
