Cary, N.C. (3/8/24) The Dominican University New York baseball team split a non-conference double-header with the Saints of D'Youville University in games played today at the USA Baseball Training Complex.
The Saints took the opener 11-7, while the Chargers won the nightcap, 2-1.
Dominican now stands at 3-7 on the season.
Game One: The Chargers took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a Saint fielding error and a single to left field off the bat of Davin Keddell-Tuckey (Troy, N.Y.).
DUNY added a run in the third on the RBI groundout from Joseph Ragone (Queens, N.Y.). DYU added two runs in the third and tacked on five more runs in the fourth inning to push ahead 7-3.
A run came home in the top of the sixth and the Chargers added three more runs in the seventh to tie the score at 7-7. In the top of the seventh, Keddell-Tuckey hit a two-run double down the right field line and Joseph Torres (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) followed with a single to centerfield.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Saints won the game on a two out grand slam for the 11-7 win.
Keddell-Tuckey went 2-4 with three RBI and one run scored, while left fielder Tyler Richman (Sunrise, Fla.) went 2-3 with two runs scored.
Reliever Tyler Spenard (Troy, N.Y.) suffered the loss.
Game Two: The game was scoreless until the bottom of the third inning when the Chargers put two runs on the board on the double down the left field line by catcher Ty Gilligan (Ringwood, N.J.).
D'Youville scored a run in their half of the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly ball for the final run of what would be a 2-1 Charger win.
Gilligan went 2-3 with two RBI in the win.
Starter Isaiah Figueroa (Old Bridge, N.J.) picked up the complete game victory, allowing one run on five hits and collecting five strikeouts.
Dominican returns to action on Sunday when they take on the Hawks of Saint Anselm in a non-conference doubleheader.
