SETTERS RALLY TO UPEND CHARGERS
Pleasantville, N.Y. (3/12/24) The Dominican University New York baseball team fell in non-conference action this afternoon to host, Pace University, 6-5, in a game played on Peter X. Finnerty Field.
With the win the Setters improve to 5-4 on the season, while the Chargers fall to 3-10 on the year.
The game was scoreless through three innings of play when Domincan struck for three runs in the top of the fourth on three hits. Right fielder Joseph Torres (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) got things going with an RBI groundout and first basemen Jake Chaisongkram (Chula Vista, Calif.) followed with a run-scoring single to left field. Later, Jean Nunez (New York, N.Y.) recorded an RBI ground out to bring home a run and give the Chargers the 3-0 lead.
Pace got a run back in the bottom of the fourth and followed with a three-run fifth frame to pull ahead 4-3. Dominican regained the lead in the eighth stanza with second basemen Ryan Bongiorno (Stanhope, N.J.) singled home a run and pinch hitter Andrew Smith (Hampton Bays, N.Y.) followed with an RBI ground out for the 5-4 lead.
A home run in the bottom of the eighth inning put the Setters ahead 6-5 en route to the win.
Bongiorno, Davin Keddell-Tuckey (Troy, N.Y.) and Ty Gilligan (Ringwood, N.J.) all had two hits in the contest.
Reliever AJ Mitchell (Yonkers, N.Y.) took the loss.
Dominican is back in action tomorrow afternoon when they return to Pace University in non-cofnerence action.
