Uniondale, N.Y. (3/16/24) The Dominican University New York baseball team fell in both games of a non-conference doubleheader to the Lions of Molloy University this afternoon on Mitchel Field in Uniondale, N.Y.
The Chargers fall to 4-14 overall while the Lions improve to 13-4 overall.
Game One: The Lions rolled in game one to a 14-4 victory to open the doubleheader. Charlie Chucchiara recorded the win for the Lions to improve to 4-0.
Three Lions finished with multi-hit games. Joe Burriesci went 3-3 with two RBIs while Patrick Sanchez and Matthew Gonchar each recorded two hits. Gonchar added a double and Jack Coogan drove in a team-high four RBIs.
Davin Keddell-Tuckey (Troy, N.Y.) stayed hot for the Chargers going 3-4 including a double, one RBI, and one run scored. Andrew Smith (Hampton Bays, N.Y.) and Jean Nunez (New York, N.Y.) each went 2-4. Nunez also added a double and two RBIs.
Game Two: The Lions completed the sweep of the doubleheader with a 3-1 victory in game two. The Lions scored twice in the second inning and once in the fourth inning before the Chargers got on the board in the seventh but Molloy closed out the win.
John Stoliker (Guilderland, N.Y.) suffered the loss in game two for the Chargers while Ryan Hynes earned the win to improve to 3-0.
Keddell-Tuckey added one hit which makes eight total hits in his last four games played. Tyler Richman (Sunrise, Fla.) drove in the only run for the Chargers late in the game but the rally fell short.
The Chargers return to action tomorrow as they close out the three-game weekend series with the Lions at 1:00 PM.
