
CHARGERS WRAP UP WEEKEND SERIES WITH WIN OVER LIONS
Uniondale, N.Y. (3/17/24) The Dominican University New York baseball team wrapped up their weekend series with a win over the Lions of Molloy University.
The Chargers started the game off strong jumping out to a 5-0 lead over the first two innings and never looked back from there. Despite a late push by the Lions, the Chargers secured the 11-9 victory to improve to 5-14 overall.
Jeuriz Polanco (Clifton, N.J.) struck out seven batters over six innings of work and secured his second win of the season. Anthony Leak (Pelham, N.Y.) recorded a one out save to close the door and secure the win after the Lions cut the lead to two runs.
The Chargers pounded 14 hits with Joseph Torres (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) leading the way going 4-6 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Tyler Richman (Sunrise, Fla.) scored a team-high four runs and reached base safely five times going 3-4 with two walks.
Ty Gilligan (Ringwood, N.J.) drove in a team-high three RBIs and finished 2-5 on the day while David Knepper (Miami, Fla.) and Andrew Smith (Hampton Bays, N.Y.) each added two hits including doubles. Smith, Davin Keddell-Tuckey (Troy, N.Y.), and Jean Nunez (New York, N.Y.) each drove in one RBI.
Knepper also stole two bases while Richman stole one base.
The Chargers return to action Tuesday afternoon when they visit Mercy University for a non-conference battle with the Mavericks at 3:00 PM.
