Newark, N.J. (3/27/24) The Dominican University New York baseball team swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header from host Bloomfield College of Montclair State University in games played today at West Side Park.
The Chargers won the first game by the score of 17-5 and won the nightcap, 26-2.
Game One: Dominican scored 17 runs on 15 hits, highlighed with a six run fifth inning.
Catcher Anthony Nigro (Stony Point, N.Y.) went 4-5 in the game with three runs scored and four RBI.
David Knepper (Miami, Fla.) and Tyler Richman (Sunrise, Fla.) both had three hits and scored two runs in the game and combined for six RBI (Knepper, 4; Richman, 2).
First basemen Jake Chaisongkram (Chula Vista, Calif.) had two hits.
Joseph Torres (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) had a two-run home run to lead off the top of the fifth inning.
Sophomore John Stoliker (Guilderland, N.Y.) earned his first win of the season and collected five strikeouts.
Game Two: In the nightcap, the Chargers scored run in all seven innings, including two six run innings in the second and sixth frames.
Dominican scored 26 runs on 14 hits.
Designated hitter Ty Gilligan (Ringwood, N.J.) went 3-4 in the game, scoring three runs and four RBI.
Richman had two hits and scored three runs, while Davin Keddell-Tuckey (Troy, N.Y.) recorded two hits, scored three runs and two RBI.
Third basemen Joseph Coppola (Cornwall, N.Y.) had two RBI in the win.
Starter AJ Mitchell (Yonkers, N.Y.) picked up the win and recorded seven strikeouts.
The Chargers return to action on Monday evening when they complete the season series with the Bears by hosting them at Clover Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7pm.
