Lyndhurst, N.J. (4/12/24) The Dominican University New York baseball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header with host Felician University in games played this afternoon at Breslin Field. The Golden Falcons won the opener, 5-4, while the Chargers won the nightcap, 2-0 to complete the season series.
Dominican now stands at 13-23 overall on the season and 7-8 in CACC play.
Game One: The Chargers opened the game with a run in the top of the first on the RBI groundout for Davin Keddell-Tuckey (Troy, N.Y.). Felician responded with a run in each of the next four innings to push ahead 4-1.
Rightfielder Andrew Smith (Hampton Bays, N.Y.) hit a run-scoring single up-the-middle in the sixth and added a run in the top of the seventh on the RBI groundout from Tyler Richman (Sunrise, Fla.) to cut the lead to 4-3.
Felician added a run in the bottom of the seventh and the Chargers scored the game's final run in the top of the eighth on the groundout by Joseph Torres (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) for the final 5-4 Felician win.
Stater Isaiah Figueroa (Old Bridge, N.J.) suffered the loss in six and two thirds inning of work.
Smith had two hits for Dominican.
Game Two: The game was scoreless until the top of the third when the Chargers struck for two runs on an error and the RBI ground out from Torres for the 2-0 lead and eventual win.
Anthony Leak (Pelham, N.Y.) got the complete game shutout victory, scattering just three hits and striking out a career high 12 batters.
The Chargers return to action on Tuesday afternoon when they host Adelphi University in a non-conference game to be played at CLover Stadium.
