Bridgeport, Conn. (4/17/24) The Dominican University New York baseball team earned a conference win over north division rival the University of Bridgeport this afternoon.
The Chargers improve to 14-24 overall and 8-8 in conference play after the win.
Anthony Leak (Pelham, N.Y.) tossed seven strong innings while beating his career high in strikeouts last Friday with a 13 strikeout performance today. Leak improves to 3-3 on the season.
The Chargers recorded 10 total hits with David Knepper (Miami, Fla.) leading the way going 4-5 and scored one run.
Joseph Torres (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) and Tyler Richman (Sunrise, Fla.) each added two hits with Torres driving in three runs. Alexander Reyes (Bronx, N.Y.) went 1-3 with two RBIs and Myles Vazquez (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added one hit.
The Chargers got off to a fast start with three runs in the first inning after an RBI-double by Torres and then Reyes followed with a two-RBI single.
The Chargers scratched across a run in the fourth inning and later in the sixth inning Torres drove in his second run of the game.
The Purple Knights got on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning to cut the DU lead to 5-2.
Torres drove in his third run of the game in the eighth inning on a sac fly to extend the lead to 6-2.
Robert Liriano (Haverstraw, N.Y.) and Jedadiah Trudeau (Cohoes, N.Y.) threw one scoreless inning each in relief and the Chargers secured the 6-2 win.
Dominican returns home on Friday to continue their series with the Purple Knights for a CACC north division doubleheader at Clover Stadium beginning at 1:00 PM.
