BASEBALL ENDS SEASON WITH VICTORY OVER SPARTANS
Pomona, N.Y. (5/1/24) The Dominican University New York baseball team concluded the 2024 season with a 17-4 victory over non-conference rival, St. Thomas Aquinas College, this evening in a game played at Clover Stadium.
With the win Dominican ends the season with an overall record of 16-33.
Before the start of the game, the team honored seniors: #1 Bryant Bassett, #2 Christian Fils-Aime, #17 Oscarli Cruz, #48 Carsen Mansfield and #52 Maverick Medina.
The Chargers scored four runs in the top of the first inning as designated hitter Jason Chaisongkram (Chula Vista, Calif.) drew a bases loaded walk to plate a run. Jean Nunez (New York, N.Y.) reached on a fielder's choice which allowed a run to come home and a throwing error by the Spartans allowed a second run to score. An infield single off the bat of Christian Fils-Aime (North Babylon, N.Y.) brought in the fourth Charger run of the inning for the 4-0 lead.
Dominican added another four runs in the second on a two-run double down the right field line by Davin Keddell-Tuckey (Troy, N.Y.) and the two-run single by Fils-Aime to incrase the Charger lead to 8-1.
In the third, first basemen Alexander Reyes (Bronx, N.Y.) reached on a fielder's choice and the fourth inning saw a run score on wild pitch and a ground out by David Knepper (Miami, Fla.) to put the Chargers ahead 11-1.
The fifth stanza saw catcher Anthony Nigro (Stony Point, N.Y.) draw the bases loaded walk and outfielder Tyler Richman (Sunrise, Fla.) followed with a run-scoring single through the right side for a 13-1 advantage.
A bases loaded walk in the sixth and a Spartan fielding error in the seventh gave DUNY the 15-3 lead and they tacked on two more runs in the ninth on a sacrifice fly ball and a single by Chaisongkram for the final 17-4 score.
Keddell-Tucker went 4-5 in the game, while Fils-Aime and Richman had three hits each in the win.
The Dominican offense scored 17 runs on 15 hits and committed only one error in the game.
