
CHARGERS BEGIN 2025 SEASON AND TRIP TO CARY, N.C. WITH A WIN OVER CARDINALS
Cary, N.C. (2/28/25) The Dominican University New York baseball team opened the 2025 campaign and their annual trip to Cary, N.C. with a win over the Cardinals of Wheeling Jesuit University.
The Chargers rallied for a big 10 run inning in the sventh to earn the 11-1 victory and begin the season at 1-0 overall. The Cardinals fall to 3-2 overall.
Senior pitcher Anthony Leak threw five innings of one run ball striking out eight and only surrendered three hits to earn his first win of the season. Jedadiah Trudeau entered the game in the sixth inninng and threw four shutout innings striking out two batters as he recorded the save.
The Chargers pounded a total of 16 hits. Freshman Erick Diaz and Senior Tyler Richman combined for six hits with three hits each. Juan Peralta, Kevin Hirsch, and David Knepper each finished with two hits.
The Cardinals took a 1-0 lead in the second inning after pushing across a run on a fielder's choice.
Dominican tied the game on a Richman sac fly in the fifth inning. The game remained tied until Dominican's rally in the seventh inning which began with a two-run single by Diaz to give the Chargers their first lead of the game. Diaz later stole home to push the lead to 4-1.
A two-run single by Joseph Torres and a single by Alexander Reyes extended the lead to 7-1. Later in the inning, Diaz recorded his second hit of the inning and third RBI during the rally while Peralta drove in the final run of the inning.
Dominican returns to action tomorrow for the first game of a two-game set with the Pioneers of Point Park University.
