PIONEERS DEFEATS BASEBALL
Cary, N.C. (3/1/25) The Dominican University New York baseball team fell 12-9 to the Pioneers of Point Park University in a game played today at the USA National Training Complex.
Following the game, the Chargers are now 1-1 on the season.
Dominican took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as designated hitter Kevin Hirsch and Ian Labrador hit back-to-back RBI doubles.
The Pioneers got the two runs back in the top of the second, but DUNY added a run in the bottom half of the inning on the RBI single off the bat of David Knepper to regain a 3-2 advantage.
Point Park added a run in the fourth, but the Chargers once again countered in the bottom frame with the RBI single from Erick Diaz for the 4-3 edge.
The Pioneers added two runs in the fifth and three runs in the seventh to claim an 8-4 lead, but Dominican rallied with four runs on six hits to tie the score at 8-8. Tyler Richman, Juan Peralta, Jake Chaisongram and Anthony Nigro all had run-scoring hits in the inning.
Point Park added two runs in the eighth and two runs in the ninth to push ahead 12-8 and the final run of the game came in the bottom of the ninth on the solo home run by Hirsch for the final 12-9 score.
Knepper finished the game with three hits and two runs scored, while six other Chargers collected two hits a-piece in the loss.
Tanner MacLean took the loss in four innings of work and taking five strikouts.
Starter Luis Rivera collected seven strikeouts.
