
PIONEERS SWEEP TWO GAME SET OVER CHARGERS
Cary, N.C. (3/2/25) The Dominican University New York baseball team fell to the Pioneers of Point Park University for the second straight day in Cary, N.C.
The Chargers fall to 1-2 overall early on this season.
Dominican recorded 12 total hits including three extra base hits. David Knepper led the way for the Chargers going 3 for 4 including a double and drove in a team-high three RBIs while scoring one run.
Ryan Bongiorno, Jaden Maia, and Evan Amato each recorded two hits. Maia slugged two triples while scoring three runs and drove in one run. Amato scored one run while Bongiorno scored one run and drove in another. Bongiorno also stole two bases.
The Chargers jumped out in front with a run in the second inning on an RBI-single by Knepper and then in the fourth inning after a Maia RBI-triple, Knepper ripped an RBI-double for the 3-0 lead.
A big six run fifth inning by the Pioneers gave them a 6-3 advantage.
The Chargers rallied again for four runs to regain the lead in the top of the sixth inning. Knepper drove in another run and Bongiorno followed with an RBI-single to cut the deficit to 6-5.
Joseph Torres wrapped up the four run inning with a two RBI-single to put the Chargers back on top.
Two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning by the Pioneers pushed their lead to 11-7 and shutout the Chargers the rest of the way as they closed out the win.
The Chargers return to action Tuesday afternoon for game one of two with Mount Olive University.
