BASEBALL UPENDS SETTERS
Pleasantville, N.Y. (3/12/25) The Dominican University New York baseball team upended the Pace University Setters, 8-3, this afternoon in non-conference action at Peter X. Finnerty Field.
With the win the Chargers improve to 6-4 on the season.
Dominican struck for a run in the top of the first inning when designated hitter Kevin Hirsch brought home a run on the RBI groundout to second base for the early 1-0 lead.
The Setters countered with a run in the bottom half of the first and the score remained tied until the top of the third when DUNY when Pablo Guevara reached on a fielder's choice that allowed Erick Diaz to come home and give the Chargers a 2-1 advantage.
Dominican added three runs in the fourth as David Knepper and Ryan Bongiorno recorded back-to-back RBI singles and Diaz followed with an RBI sacrifice fly ball for the 5-1 lead.
The top of the fifth stanza saw Hirsch deliver a solo home run down the left field line and they added a run in the sixth on a Pace error.
Pace got on the board in their half of the seventh, while the Chargers added a run in the eighth for the 8-3 win.
Knepper went 3-4 with an RBI and two runs scored, while Hirsch and Diaz had two hits and scored two runs. Hirsch also led the team with two RBIs in the win.
Tanner MacLean picked up the win in six innings of work, allowing one run on four hits and four strikeouts.
The Chargers return to action on Saturday afternoon when they host Felician University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header to be played at Nyack High School.
