Nyack, N.Y. (3/15/25) The Dominican University New York baseball team earned a split in their conference opener with Felician University in doubleheader action played at Nyack High School.
Felician earned a 9-3 victory in game one but the Chargers bounced back to defeat the Golden Falcons 5-1 in game two.
Felician now stands at 5-7 overall and 1-1 in conference play while the Chargers are 7-5 overall and 1-1 conference play.
Game One: The Golden Falcons opened the doubleheader with a five run inning in game one highlighted by a bases loaded, bases clearing triple by Matthew Scrivanic which pushed the Felician lead to 5-0.
Louis DLaCruz extended the lead to 7-0 in the fourth after a two-RBI single. Dominican pushed across a run in the sixth and eighth innings.
Felician rallied for two more runs in the top of the ninth. Ryan Bongiorno doubled in a run for the Chargers in the bottom of the ninth but Dominican fell 9-3.
Kevin Hirsch had one RBI while Juan Peralta had two hits. DU starting pitcher Luis Rivera struck out eight batters in five innings but suffered the loss. Felician starter Max Weber recorded the win after six innings pitched and five strikeouts.
Game Two: Senior pitcher Anthony Leak had a strong performance on the mound in game two for the Chargers. Leak pitched six innings of one run ball while striking out seven to earn his second win on the season.
The Chargers struck first in game two and took a 3-0 lead after Hirsch singled in the first run of the game and Anthony Nigro extended the lead after a two-RBI double.
Felician answered with their only run of the game in the second inning after an RBI groundout by Scrivanic.
Nigro drove in his third run of the game in the third inning after an RBI-single and Jean Nunez scratched across DU's fifth run of the game later in the third.
Jedadiah Trudeau pitched a scoreless seventh inning as the Chargers earned the split.
Dominican continues their weekend series with CACC rival Felician University tomorrow with a road doubleheader beginning at 11:00 AM.
