Wappingers Falls, N.Y. (3/20/25) The Dominican University New York baseball team split a conference doubleheader with CACC opponent Chestnut Hill College at Heritage Financial Park in Wappingers Falls, N.Y.
Dominican downed the Griffins by a score of 12-4 in game but CHC bounced back and earned a comeback victory in game two by a score of 4-2.
Dominican now holds an overall record of 9-7 and a CACC record of 3-3 while the Griffins now stand at 9-8 overall and 4-2 in the CACC.
Game One: DU's starting pitcher Tanner MacLean pitched a solid game going seven innings allowing three runs to earn the win.
Jaden Maia started the scoring in the first inning with an RBI-single and then David Knepper extended the lead in the second inning with an RBI-double.
After the Griffins tied the game on a Phoenix Bowman single, the Chargers hit back to back homers, a lead off homer by Ty Gilligan followed by Ian Labrador to regain the lead.
Dominican pushed the lead to 7-2 after Erick Diaz hit an inside the park two run homer in the bottom of the sixth.
The Chargers rallied for four runs in the seventh inning and added one more run in the eighth.
Kenny Dominguez and Miguelangel Francisco each pitched one inning in relief for the Chargers.
Game Two: The Chargers got on the board early in game two after an RBI-triple by Byron Arias and then later scored after an RBI-single by Jaden Maia.
The Griffins started to chip away after an RBI-groundout by Bowman got CHC on the board in the second inning. Nicholas Shiffler recorded a sac fly in the fourth inning to tie the game at 2-2.
An RBI-double by Justin Geiger in the sixth inning gave the Griffins their first lead on the day and then Jason Kelly drove in an insurance run in the seventh as the Griffins took game two 4-2.
Jedadiah Trudeau got the start on the mound for the Chargers and tossed five innings while allowing two runs and received a no decision. Vincent Giambona entered the game in the sixth inning and surrendered two runs as he suffered the loss.
Chestnut Hill starting pitcher Jason Kelly pitched five innings and allowed two runs as he earned the victory. Colby Seelig earned a two inning save for his fourth of the year.
The Chargers return to action tomorrow afternoon as they host CACC north division rival University of Bridgeport for a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 PM at Clover Stadium.
