Bridgeport, Conn. (3/22/25) The Dominican University New York baseball team swept a road doubleheader against CACC opponent University of Bridgeport this afternoon.
The Chargers win the season series over the Purple Knights 3-1 and improve to 12-8 overall and 6-4 in conference play while UB falls to 5-18 and 3-7 in conference play.
Game One: The Chargers took game one behind a big 10 run eighth inning that helped solidify the 14-1 victory.
DU starting pitcher Isaiah Figueroa allowed one run over eight innings and recorded seven strikeouts while allowing six hits and four walks.
The Chargers finished with 10 hits in game one. Erick Diaz and Juan Peralta each finished with two hits. Diaz added a triple, one RBI, and scored three runs while Peralta added a double and two RBIs.
Byron Arias also drove in two runs while Jaden Maia, Ty Gilligan, and Stefano Libio each finished with one RBI.
Game Two: The Chargers completed the two game sweep and secured the series victory with a 6-4 win in game two.
Samuel Herrera got the win after seven complete innings earning four strikeouts.
The Chargers scored in the top of the first inning after a sac fly by Gilligan. Dominican added another run in the fourth inning after Gilligan scored on an error.
Dominican added two runs in the sixth inning on a David Knepper RBI-single and two more in the seventh inning after a two-RBI single by Evan Amato.
The Purple Knights rallied for four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning highlighted by RBI hits by Vin Mallon and Anthony Matturo. The other two UB runs scored on an error and a sac fly.
With the tying runs on base, Herrera was able to shut the door and end the rally.
The Chargers return to action this Tuesday as they hit the road for a non-conference match up with the Adelphi University Panthers.
