
BASEBALL FALLS TO PANTHERS
Garden City, N.Y. (3/25/25) The Dominican University New York baseball team fell to host, Adelphi University, 11-5 this afternoon in a non-conference game played at William J. Bonomo Memorial Field.
Following the loss, the Chargers now stand at 12-9 on the season.
AU held a 3-0 lead through four innings of play when the Charger offense got going with a four-run top of the fifth inning. Byron Arias got things going with an RBI single to left centerfield and later Ian Labrador delivered an RBI double to left field. Designated hitter Joseph Coppola singled home a run and Labrador later scored on a failed pick off attempt to put DUNY ahead 4-3.
The Panthers got the run back in the bottom of the fourth, but Dominican struck again for a run in the fifth on the RBI groundout off the bat of Arias for the 5-4 advantage.
Adelphi scored a run in the bottom of the sixth, added one in the seventh and tacked on five more runs in the eighth en route to the 11-5 win.
Catcher Anthony Nigro went 2-4 in the game. Arias finished with two RBIs.
Reliever AJ Mitchell suffered the loss in two and 2/3 innings of work.
Dominican returns to action tomorrow when they travel to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponent, Thomas Jefferson University.
