Pomona, N.Y. (4/4/25) The Dominican University New York baseball team extended their current winning streak to eight games after sweeping a CACC doubleheader over Caldwell University.
Dominican downed the Cougars by a score of 10-1 in game one and then completed the sweep with an 11-3 win in game two.
The Chargers improved to 20-11 overall and 14-6 in conference play while the Cougars fall to 15-13 overall and 9-11 in the CACC.
Game One: The Chargers recorded 11 total hits in the game one win. They scored at least one run in every inning through the first five innings.
Jean Nunez went 2-4 including a double and drove in a team-high three RBIs. Jaden Maia finished with three hits including two doubles and drove in two RBIs. Ty Gilligan also drove in two RBIs while Anthony Nigro hit an RBI-double.
DU starting pitcher Luis Rivera threw a strong eight innings while only allowing one run, three walks, and struck out seven batters. Josh Harrison pitched a scoreless ninth inning to close out the win.
Game Two: The Chargers trailed game two early but tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the third and then rallied for seven runs in the fourth inning and then three runs in the fifth inning as they secured the 11-3 win.
Maia added two more hits in game two including a double and drove in a team-high three RBIs.
Byron Arias added a two RBI-double while Kevin Hirsch finished with two hits and drove in one RBI.
Nunez added two more hits and an RBI while Erick Diaz also drove in an RBI. Ryan Bongiorno finished with two hits.
Anthony Leak earned his fourth win of the season after throwing a complete seven innings. Leak recorded a season high 11 strikeouts.
The Chargers return to action tomorrow when they visit the Bears of Bloomfield College to open a four game weekend series.
