
MEN'S BASKETBALL TURNED AWAY BY SPARTANS
Orangeburg, N.Y. (11/22/24) The Dominican University New York men's basketball team fell in non-conference action to the Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas College tonight on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center.
STAC, #22 in the D2CSC National Poll and #2 in the D2CSC East Region Poll, used a big first half to generate a big lead on their way to their fourth win of the season.
The Chargers, #9 in the D2CSC East Region Poll, falls to 2-2 overall after the loss.
STAC shot 51.4% from the field in the first half and used a 12-0 run to extend their lead to double digits and ended the half with a 19 point lead.
STAC extended to their largest lead of the game in the second half which was 29. The Spartans finished the game shooting 58.2% from the field and 58.3% from three point range.
Dominican forced 25 STAC turnovers and scored 24 points off of turnovers. Dominican also held the edge in second chance points with 21.
Isaiah Honis led all scorers with 25 points off the bench going 8-15 and added three, three point field goals. Isaiah Honis recorded a team-high seven boards and six steals.
Jaden Honis finished with 19 points on 6-13 from the field and 6-7 from the charity stripe. Jaden Honis also grabbed four boards, three assists, and three steals.
Koi D. Kirk Jr. finished with 12 points as well as five boards and three assists. Reigning CACC Defensive Player of the Week Emmanuel Smith had a team-high three blocks and recorded five rebounds.
STAC was led by Hartnel Haye who scored 19 points and picked up eight boards. Troy'reon Ramos added 12 points and four assists.
Tyshon Judge and Derrick James each finished with 10 points.
The Chargers return to action next Tuesday when they visit Millersville University for a non-conference contest at 5:00 PM.
