
CHARGERS UPEND MARAUDERS IN OVERTIME
Millersville, Pa. (11/26/24) The Dominican University New York men's basketball team are bringing home a 79-76 victory this evening after defeating the Marauders of Millersville University in non-conference action.
With the win Dominican improves to 3-2 overall.
Red-shirt senior forward Emmanuel Smith recorded a career high 30 points (11-16 from the floor, 8-11 from the charity stripe), nine rebounds, four steals and three blocks in the win.
Guard Jaden Honis scored a season high 22 points, six assists and two steals, while brother Isaiah Honis just missed a double-double with 10 points and nine caroms.
Joshuel White had a game best six steals and added seven points.
The Chargers out rebounded their counterparts, 40-31, and took advantage of 29 turnovers to net 24 points in a game that featured 13 ties and nine lead changes.
Dominican used a 7-0 run in the first half to claim their biggest lead (18-10) with 12:46 left in the firt half. Millersville would rally and hold a 35-32 lead with just over two minutes left. Back-to-back layups by J. Honis closed out the period and tied the game at 36-all.
MU held a 58-49 lead with 9:15 remaining in regulation when DUNY offense got going with a 17-9 run, capped off with a three-point bucket from Key'Sean Maynard to regain a 67-65 lead with under two minutes on the clock. J. Honis hit a jumper to make the score 69-66 with 43 ticks left, but a Marauder trey with 17 seconds to go forced the overtime period.
The Chargers took advantage of six Millersville turnovers in the five minute overtime period with four over them coming in the final minute of action. Smith opened the period with consecutive baskets and completed an and-one opportunity to give DUNY the 74-71 advantage. Later White put the team ahead 79-76 with nine seconds on the clock and the Marauders couldn't get off a final shot as Maynard stripped the ball away from the ball-handler as time expired.
Dominican returns to action on Saturday afternoon when they host Assumption University on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center.
