
CHARGERS OPEN CACC PLAY WITH A VICTORY OVER EAGLES
Orangeburg, N.Y. (12/3/24) The Dominican university New York men's basketball team opened up Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play this evening with a 72-61 victory over the visiting Eagles of Post University in a game played on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center.
With the win, the Chargers now stand at 4-3 overall and 1-0 in the CACC.
The game featured nine lead changes and three tied scores. Dominican took advantage of 25 Eagle turnovers to score 32 points, while Post won the war on the glass, out rebounding DUNY 46-38.
Post lead 29-26 with 4:38 remaining in the first half when Dominican went on a 9-2 run to turn the tide and take a 35-31 lead at the intermission.
Dominican opened the second half on a 9-2 run to claim a 44-33 advantage, with seven straight points scored by Isaiah Honis.
The Eagles would cut the lead to four points (57-53) with 8:24 left in regulation, but a 7-0 Charger run re-built a 64-53 lead with under six minutes to play and they would never relinquish the lead en route to the victory.
Jaden Honis led all scorers with 17 points and three steals.
Junior Koi D. Kirk, Jr., netted 15 points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals, while Emmanuel Smith scored 14 points, six rebounds and four blocks.
I. Honis recorded 13 points and seven rebounds in the victory.
Dominican returns to action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Felician University.
