PENMEN OUTLAST CHARGERS IN NON-CONFERENCE ACTION
Orangeburg, N.Y. (12/14/24) The Dominican University New York men's basketball team was edged by the Penmen of Southern New Hampshire University this afternoon in a non-conference game on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center.
SNHU won the tightly contested match up by a score of 66-64 to improve to 6-3 overall on the season. The Chargers drop to 5-4 overall after the loss.
The Penmen hit clutch free-throws and two big layups down the stretch and made one last defensive stop to secure the victory.
The game saw 13 lead changes and 10 ties. Dominican's largest lead of the game was five points and SNHU's largest lead was six points. The Chargers shot 41.8% from the field while the Penmen shot 39.0%.
DU's leading scorer Jaden Honis finished with a team-high 20 points on 8-11 from the field including two three-point field goals and two made free-throws. Honis also dished out a team-high seven assists while also grabbing four boards.
Senior Emmanuel Smith finished with 12 points and picked up three rebounds as well as two steals and two blocks.
Junior forward Koi D. Kirk Jr. scored 10 points off the bench and recorded a team-high seven boards and added two steals.
Isaiah Honis picked up a team-high three steals and scored seven points while Juelz Dickerson finished with six boards and five points.
The Penmen were led by Ray Daniels who scored a game-high 28 points on 10-20 from the field and recorded seven rebounds, also a team-high, and three steals. Noah Harris finished with 14 points.
The Chargers return to action next weekend on their Florida trip for the Florida Tech Winter Classic. Dominican will take on Lynn University on Friday night December 20th at 7:30 PM before meeting host school Florida Tech on Saturday, December 21st at 5:00 PM.
