
CHARGERS CONCLUDE PLAY IN 2024 WITH VICTORY OVER FLORIDA TECH
Melbourne, Fla. (12/21/24) The Dominican University New York men's basketball team concluded play at the Florida Tech Winter Classic with a 96-70 victory over the Florida Tech Panthers this evening in a game played in the Charles and Ruth Clemente Center.
The Chargers improve to 6-5 overall in their 2024 finale.
Trailing 35-31 with 5:08 remaining in the first half, the Charger offense got going with a 12-2 run to tip the scales and take a 43-37 advantage at the break.
Dominican shot 51.5% (17-33) from the floor in the first half, 42.9% (6-14) from the three-point arc and 75.0% (3-4) from the charity stripe.
Key'Sean Maynard opened second play with the period's first six points, including an and-one play to extend the lead to 49-37. The Chargers would lead by as many as 30 points with under a minute to play en route to the 96-70 victory in their fist-ever meeting against the Panthers.
Sophomore guard Juelz Dickerson led four players in double figures with a career high 15 points (6-7 from the floor and 3-4 from the three-point arc).
Koi D. Kirk, Jr. came off the bench to score 13 points and five rebounds, while freshman Tyler Edore netted a career high 12 points, three caroms, two steals and two blocks.
Michael O'Mahony (Cork, Ireland) recorded a career high 11 points in the win and Emmanuel Smith pulled down a team best eight boards to go along with eight points.
Guards Jaden Honis and Isaiah Honis came off the bench to tally nine points a-piece, while Maynard finished with eight points and four assists. Chance Morrish dished out a team best six assists.
The Chargers finished the game shooting 56.1% (37-66) from the floor, 48.1% (13-27) from the three-point arc and 69.2% (9-13) from the foul line.
DUNY scored 19 points off of 13 Panther turnovers and out rebounded their opponents, 37-33.
The team returns to action on Saturday, January 4th when they host Thomas Jefferson University in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play in the Hennessy Center.
