
CHARGERS TOP PURPLE KNIGHTS
Bridgeport, Conn. (1/22/25) The Dominican University New York men's basketball team fought off a second half rally by the University of Bridgeport to bring home an 88-86 victory this evening in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) played in Harvey Hubbell Gym.
With the win Dominican improves to 11-6 overall and 6-1 in conference play.
Junior guard Isaiah Honis led four players in double figures with 26 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Koi D. Kirk, Jr added 15 points, while Jaden Honis scored 14 points and four caroms.
Pulling down eight rebounds was Emmanuel Smith to go along with 12 points.
Joshuel White dished out a team high four assists, five rebounds and two steals.
The score was tied at 8-all with 14:11 remaining in the first half when the Charger offense went on a 17-5 tear to pull ahead, 25-13, midway through the period. A dunk by Smith closed out the first half and gave DUNY the 45-31 lead.
Another dunk by Smith with 11:09 left in regulation would give the Chargers their biggest lead of the contest, 67-45, but UB rallied to cut the deficit to four points (84-80) with 35 ticks remaining. I. Honis iced two free throws to make it a two possession game and later went 1-2 from the charity stripe for an 87-80 advantage. A Purple Knight trey once again made it a four-point game, but J. Honis added a free throw to make it a five point lead (88-83) with nine seconds left. UB closed out the contest with a three-point basket.
Dominican shot 55.7% (34-51) from the floor, 42.9 (6-14) from the three-point arc and 60.9% (14-23) from the foul line in the game. The Chargers out-rebounded their counterparts, 41-37.
The Chargers return to action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to conference opponent, Georgian Court University.
