MEN'S BASKETBALL DEFEATS COUGARS
Orangeburg, N.Y. (1/28/25) In a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division battle, the Dominican University New York men's basketball team defeated the visiting Cougars of Caldwell University, 74-67, this evening in a game played on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center.
With the win, the Chargers improve to 13-6 overall and 8-1 in CACC play.
Dominican never trailed in the contest and would lead by as many as 15 points midway through the first half. An 18-4 Charger run during the period pushed them ahead, 21-6 with 9:51 on the clock. The Cougars would score the final six points to cut the deficit to 33-26 at the intermission.
CU would pull within two points with under ten minute to go, but the Dominican offense went on a 12-2 run to rebuild a nine-point (62-50) advantage with under four minutes left and go on to the win.
Junior Isaiah Honis led the Charger with 20 points (8-9 from the charity stripe).
Emmanuel Smith added 12 points, six rebounds and two steals, while Jaden Honis tallied 11 points, four assists and four steals.
Guard Chance Morrish came off the bench to net 11 points (4-5 from the floor), while Tyler Edore pulled down a team best eight rebounds in the win.
The Chargers return to action on Saturday afternoon when they host Holy Family University for the 35th Annual Bobby Mulligan Memorial Game.
