
JADEN HONIS HITS GAME WINNER, LIFTS CHARGERS OVER GRIFFINS
Philadelphia, Pa. (2/8/25) The Dominican University New York men's basketball team edged the Griffins of Chestnut Hill College this afternoon in conference action from the Sargenti Center.
DU's Jaden Honis hit the game winning shot with one second left to play to secure the victory.
Dominican, #5 in the D2CSC East Region Poll, improves to 15-7 overall and 10-2 in conference play.
The closely played contest saw nine ties and 11 lead changes. Dominican shot 42.4% from the field and went 17-27 from the free throw line.
The Chargers overcame a 10 point deficit in the second half as they rallied to take a two point lead with 4:36 remaining to play.
Down the stretch, Dominican extended their lead to five points when Isaiah Honis nailed a jumper with 33 seconds left.
Both teams traded baskets on their next possessions and a made free-throw by J. Honis pushed the DU lead to 73-70. Iv Pettit knocked down the tying three-pointer with 10 ticks remaining in the game.
Out of their timeout, J. Honis knocked down the game winning layup with one second remaining to secure the win.
J. Honis led the way for the Chargers with 22 points and also recorded four boards, two assists, and one steal. I. Honis finished with 12 points while Tyler Edore also finished with 12 points which matches a season high. Edore pulled down a team-high six boards.
Koi D. Kirk, Jr. provided nine points, three boards, and two assists while Chance Morrish picked up seven points.
The Griffins were led by Alejandro Cybak who led all scorers with 26 points on 11-16 from the field. Iv Pettit added 18 points including 4-6 from beyond the arc.
The Chargers return home to host the Bears of Bloomfield College of MSU for a CACC north division battle on Coach Baxter Court.
