
CHARGERS SWEEP SEASON SERIES OVER COUGARS
Caldwell, N.J. (2/22/25) The Dominican University New York men's basketball team earned a season sweep over CACC north division rival Caldwell University this afternoon in a game played at the Newman Center in Caldwell, N.J.
The Chargers, #5 in the D2CSC East Region Poll and in the NCAA East Region rankings, improve to 18-7 overall and 13-2 in conference play.
Both teams played a tight first half and the Chargers took a lead halfway through and held a three-point advantage by halftime.
Dominican shot 50.0% from the field in the opening half and then opened the second half on a 9-3 run. Dominican used a 10-3 run to extend to their largest lead of the game which was 14 points halfway through the second half.
The Cougars made a push to cut the DU lead down to two points with 22 seconds remaining after Mark Heber hit a shot from beyond the arc.
Clutch free-throws by Jaden Honis and Isaiah Honis including a big steal by Isaiah Honis down the stretch sealed the 77-74 win.
J. Honis led the Chargers with 20 points including going 15-20 from the charity stripe and scored a total of 15 points in the second half. J. Honis also dished out a team-high five assists.
Chance Morrish finished with 13 points while Elijah Peters added 12 points. Emmanuel Smith scored 10 points and pulled down four boards. I. Honis scored nine points and had four big takeaways.
Tyler Edore provided a boost off the bench with a team-high 11 boards and scored seven points.
Dominican returns to action next Saturday, March 1st when they host Felician University on Senior Day.
