
#7 CHARGERS UPSET #2 PANTHERS IN NCAA EAST REGION QUARTERFINALS
Amherst, N.Y. (3/15/25) The seventh-seeded Dominican University New York men's basketball team upset the second-seeded Panthers of Adelphi University, 85-66, this afternoon in one of the quarterfinal games of the 2025 NCAA D2 East Region Tournament, hosted by top-seeded Daemen University.
With the win, Dominican improves to 21-8 overall and advances to the semifinals where they will face the Greyhounds of Assumption University.
The first half was a close-knit battle with the Panthers holding their biggest lead of six points (10-4) with 17:12 remaining in the first half. A 10-2 Charger run turned the tables and put Dominican up 14-12 and the went into intermission with a 41-39 edge.
Dominican dominated the second half, scoring the first ten points of the period to take a double-digit lead, and would extend the lead to as many as 23 points (85-62) with 1:04 left in the period. AU closed out the game on a 4-0 run for the 85-66 Charger victory.
The Chargers scored 27 points off 18 Panther turnovers and dominate the glass, 31-21.
DUNY shot 55.7% (34-61) from the floor, 56.3% (9-16) from the three-point arc and 66.7% (8-12) from the charity stripe for the game.
Graduate student Jaden Honis led four Charger starters in double figures with 19 points (8-14 from the floor) and four rebounds.
Isaiah Honis finished with 18 points (4-8 from the arc) and pulled down a team best seven rebounds, while Emmanuel Smith tallied 11 points, six rebounds and three steals in the win.
Chance Morrish also scored 11 points, three assists, two steals and two boards.
Dominican takes on #6 Assumption University tomorrow evening at 5pm in the semifinals of the 2025 NCAA D2 East Region Tournament.
