
#7 CHARGERS BOW OUT OF NCAA EAST REGIONAL TOURNAMENT WITH LOSS TO #6 ASSUMPTION UNIVERSITY
Amherst, N.Y. (3/16/25) The seventh-seeded Dominican University New York men's basketball team fell to the sixth-seeded Greyhounds of Assumption University, 81-75, this evening in a 2025 NCAA Division II Men's Basketball East Regional Semifinal contest played in Lumsden Gymnasium on the campus of Daemen University.
Following the game, the Chargers conclude the season with an overall record of 21-9.
Graduate student Jaden Honis led four Chargers in double figures with 19 points (10-12 from the charity stripe), five rebounds and three assists.
Chance Morrish contributed 16 points, six rebounds and four assists, while Koi D. Kirk, Jr came off the bench to score 15 points and five caroms in the loss.
Junior Isaiah Honis finished the game with 12 points and three boards.
The game featured 12 lead changes and eight tied scores. AU out rebounded DUNY, 43-36, while the Chargers netted 17 points off 17 turnovers.
An I. Honis jumper with 9:50 remaining in the first half gave the Chargers their first lead of the contest, 15-14. A trey from Kirk gave the Chargers a 28-26 lead with a minute and half remaining in the first period. The Greyhounds closed out the half on a 5-0 run for the 31-28 advantage.
The Chargers battled back from an 11 point (72-61) deficit with 4:24 to play by going on an 11-3 run to cut the lead to three points (75-72). Six unanswered AU points rebuilt an 81-72 lead, but Morrish closed out the game with a game-ending trey for the final 81-75 score.
The Greyhounds advance to the East Regional Final where they will take on the winner of the second semifinal game between #1 Daemen University/#5 St. Thomas Aquinas College on Tuesday evening.
