
CHARGERS DOWN BRIDGEPORT FOR FIRST CONFERENCE WIN

The Chargers topped the Purple Knights by a score of 17-12 to improve to 3-8 overall and 1-2 in the CACC. UB falls to 1-8 overall and 0-3 in conference play.
Steffen Peabody (Brookhaven, N.Y.), who entered in relief for Chargers' starter Gerardo Caltagirone (Tappan, N.Y.), made 11 saves and earned the victory to improve to 1-1 on the season. Caltagirone started in goal for the Chargers and recorded one save.
Peter Nazario started in goal for the Purple Knights and recorded 15 saves but suffered the loss.
Daniel Carson (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) led the way for Dominican with five goals and four assists for nine points. Carson also took a team-high 14 shots in the game. William Gordon (Amityville, N.Y.) added three goals and two assists for five points.
Kyle Benedetto (Wantagh, N.Y.) and Jason Allen (Middletown, N.J.) each added two goals. Zachary Souza (Stratford, Conn.) and Cole Vencak (Smithtown, N.Y.) each scored one goal and recorded two assists.
Joseph DeGregorio (Lindenhurst, N.Y.), Terence O'Loughlin (Nanuet, N.Y.), and Eric Greenwood (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada) all scored one goal in the win.
Dominican's faceoff man Patrick Roderka (Warwick, N.Y.) went 18-31 on faceoffs and picked up a team-high 10 ground balls.
The Purple Knights opened the game with back to back goals by Darien Fray to take a 2-0 early lead. Jason Allen put Dominican on the board before UB answered for three straight goals to take a 5-1 lead.
Dominican finished the first quarter with goals by Carson and Souza to cut the deficit to 5-3 at the start of the second quarter.
UB added three goals in the second quarter while Dominican fought their way back to cut the deficit to 8-7 by halftime.
Dominican outscored the Purple Knights 7-0 in the third quarter which gave the Chargers a 14-8 lead. Six different goal scorers helped give the Chargers the lead in the third quarter including two more goals by Daniel Carson.
The Purple Knights scored the first goal of the fourth quarter to cut the Dominican lead to 14-9. The Chargers extended their lead with three unanswered goals to extend their lead to 17-9. UB added three goals before time ran out but the Chargers secured the 17-12 win.
Dominican returns to action on Saturday night when they visit Felician University for a CACC contest at 7:00 PM.
