Orangeburg, N.Y. (2/17/25) The Dominican University New York men's lacrosse team dropped their 2025 season opener to the Molloy University Lions in non-conference action on O'Brien Field.
Molloy improves to 2-0 overall on the season while the Chargers now stand at 0-1 overall.
DU goalkeepers made a combined 22 saves. Kyle Janks got the start in goal and made 11 saves but suffered the loss. Bryce Layton made nine saves in 21:54 of action while Jake Mahan saw 8:06 of action and recorded two saves.
Christian Michaels got the start for the Lions and made five saves and recorded his second win on the season. John Basile entered the game at the start of the fourth quarter and made seven saves.
The Lions opened the scoring with two goals to begin the game before Nickolas Paletta put DU on the board with his first of the year.
The Lions answered with two more goals before the end of the opening quarter. Molloy continued their scoring run into the second quarter with seven total goals.
Ryan Gonzalez ended the run with his first of the year with six seconds left in the first half. Molloy led 11-2 by halftime.
Molloy added five goals in the third quarter and four goals in the fourth quarter to extend their lead. Dominican's third goal was scored by Aidan McGrath at the start of the fourth quarter.
Dominican picked up a total of 18 ground balls with Benjamin Magday and Patrick Roderka each finished with two ground balls.
Michael Aufiero led the way in caused turnovers with three Paletta led the team in shots with five while McGrath and James Conklin finished with four shots.
The Chargers return to action this Saturday when they visit D'Youville University.
