
YELLOW JACKETS TOP MEN'S LACROSSE
Springfield, Mass. (2/26/25) The Dominican University New York men's lacrosse team lost a non-conference game to host, American International College, 11-8 this evening in a game played at Abdow Field.
With the loss the Chargers fall to 0-2 on the young season, while the Yellow Jackets improve to 1-0 on the year.
The Yellow Jackets scored two goals in the first three minutes of the contest for the early advantage, but attacker Chad Keyser got the Chargers on the scoreboard with the man-up goal, off the assist by Aidan McGrath. AIC would get another score with under two minutes remaining in the quarter for the 3-1 lead.
Keyser and McGrath once again connected to net a goal to get the scoring going in the second quarter to cut the lead to 3-2. Following an AIC score, junior Zachary Souza recorded a man-up goal, off the pass from Nickolas Paletta, to make the score 4-3 with 8:25 left before the intermission. The Yellow Jackets would close out the half on a 2-0 run for a 6-3 advantage at the break.
DUNY opened the third quarter with back-to-back goals from Keyser and McGrath, both assisted by James Conklin, to bring them within a goal, 6-5 with 12:12 left in the quarter. AIC scored three unanswered goals to regain a 9-5 lead, but midfielder Sean Cosgrove broke the run with a score off McGrath's third assist of the night to make the score 9-6 after three quarters of play.
In the final quarter the Yellow Jackets netted the first two goals of the period to extend the lead to 11-6, but Souza broke the run with his third game goal off the pass from Jesse Bentrewicz and Paletta closed out the game with the man-up goal (pass from Cosgrove) for the 11-8 final score.
Keyser and Souza both recorded a hat trick with three goals each, while McGrath finished with three assists.
Junior Paletta and Cosgrove both had a goal and an assist in the loss.
Starting goalkeeper Kyle Janks made five saves in the first 30 minutes of action, while Bryce Layton had six saves in the final 30 minutes.
Dominican returns to O'Brien Field this coming Saturday when they face non-conference opponent, Franklin Pierce University. Game time is set for 11am.
