New Haven, Conn. (8/26/24) Post University, which has won the last five conference championship tournaments it has competed in, was picked first in the 2024 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men's Soccer Preseason Coaches' Poll, as announced by Commissioner Dan Mara. The Eagles earned 121 points in the voting including 11 first-place votes. The voting for the poll was done by the league's 12 head coaches in the sport.
University of Bridgeport, which advanced to last season's CACC Championship match, was second in this year's preseason poll with 105 points and one first-place nod. Felician University and Wilmington University finished tied for third in the poll with 98 points apiece.
The Eagles have won the CACC title in 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022 and 2023. Post will be looking to hoist the conference crown once again in 2024 and make another deep run into the NCAA Division II Tournament. Ted Haley's squad returns several letterwinners from a season ago.
Bridgeport enters its third season in CACC men's soccer in 2024, and the Purple Knights have been impressive during their first two campaigns in the conference. UB made the postseason in 2022 and as mentioned above reached last fall's championship final as the school hosted the conference tournament.
WilmU looks to return to the top of the league in 2024 as the Wildcats have been one of the most competitive programs in the East Region the last several years by making numerous NCAA appearances. Felician looks to earn a high seed in this fall's CACC Championship and host at least one match in the tournament.
The 2024 CACC Men's Soccer Season gets underway on Thursday, Sept. 5, with several schools in action that day. The regular season will be a buildup to the 2024 CACC Championship in mid-November which will feature a new format this fall. Both the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds will be hosted at the sites of the highest seeds on Sunday, Nov. 10 and Wednesday, Nov. 13. The CACC Soccer Championship Banquet will be held on Saturday, Nov. 16, at Wilmington University in Delaware, and the school will host the conference final on Sunday, Nov. 17, at the WU Athletics Complex. The winner of the CACC Championship will earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Regional Tournament the following weekend at a site to be determined.
